There’s something so special about celebrating a couple in the season just before their wedding day—and Lauren and Jake’s Knoxville engagement session was the perfect way to do just that. From wandering through the blooming gardens at peak Black-Eyed Susan season to exploring downtown Knoxville with the iconic Sunsphere in the background, their engagement session was full of laughter, sweet moments, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being together.
Lauren and Jake first met while attending the University of Missouri–St. Louis, and now, years later, they’re getting ready to begin an entirely new chapter together. Next September, these two will say I do surrounded by the beauty of the Smoky Mountains at Magnolia Venue for what is sure to be an incredible early fall wedding.
For their engagement photos, we started at the Knoxville Botanical Garden, where everything was bursting with color. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect—the gardens were filled with gorgeous Black-Eyed Susans, creating the most beautiful golden backdrop for Lauren and Jake.
There’s something about being surrounded by flowers that makes an engagement session feel extra romantic, but what stood out most about these two was how comfortable they were together. From cuddling close and stealing kisses to laughing their way through our time together, their connection made photographing them feel effortless.
And honestly, those are some of my favorite engagement sessions—the ones where a couple can forget about the camera and simply enjoy being together.
After exploring the gardens, we headed into downtown Knoxville for a completely different backdrop. Knoxville has such a fun mix of historic architecture, urban scenery, and unexpected little pockets of beauty, making it a wonderful place for an engagement session.
Of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to include some photographs featuring the Sunsphere. It’s such an iconic part of the Knoxville skyline and makes for a fun nod to the city where Lauren and Jake chose to celebrate this season of their relationship.
The change of scenery also gave their session a completely different feel—from lush gardens and wildflowers to the energy and character of downtown Knoxville.
While I loved getting to photograph Lauren and Jake’s engagement session here in Knoxville, I’m even more excited knowing that the next time I see these two, it will be for their Smoky Mountain wedding at Magnolia Venue!
An early fall wedding in the mountains sounds like the perfect setting for these two. I can already imagine the beautiful scenery, the changing leaves, and all of the excitement that comes with finally seeing two people you’ve gotten to know say, “We’re married!”
Lauren and Jake, thank you for spending the day exploring Knoxville with me! I had the best time wandering through the gardens, chasing the beautiful light, admiring all those Black-Eyed Susans, and capturing the two of you exactly as you are together. Your joy is contagious, and I can’t wait to celebrate with you both next September!
